Red Cone Gall Wasp (Andricus kingi)

The red cone gall wasp (Andricus kingi) induces conical galls on the upper and lower leaf surfaces of a number of white oaks in summer. Most galls are bright red, but specimens with varying degrees of white are not uncommon. Spring generation galls form along the leaf perimeters.
