California Newt (Taricha torosa)

The California newt (Taricha torosa) is a salamander that is generally brownish above and orange underneath (hence the alternate common name, orange-bellied newt). This California endemic might look adorable, but it produces a substance in its skin that is hundreds of times more toxic than cyanide. Look, but don't touch, and definitely don't ingest!
