Common Bird's Nest Fungus (Crucibulum laeve)

Common bird's nest fungus (Crucibulum laeve) is a mushroom species whose fruiting bodies resemble miniature homes for our avian friends. The "eggs" are formally known as peridioles, and they get launched away from the nests to propagate the species with a little help from falling raindrops. Crucibulum crucibuliforme is a synonym. Both the generic and specific names reference the urn or melting-pot shape of the tiny fruiting bodies.
