Leafy Brain (Phaeotremella foliacea)

Leafy brain (Phaeotremella foliacea, formerly Tremella foliacea) is an edible and gelatinous fungus which is parasitic on false turkey tail (Stereum hirsutum). Additional common names include jelly leaf, and brown witch's butter. Witch's butter (Naematelia aurantia) is a similar species which also feeds on false turkey tail, but its bright yellow color readily distinguishes it from the amber brown tones of leafy brain.
