Orange Peel Fungus (Aleuria aurantia)

Though it may superficially resemble the discarded rind of a common citrus fruit, the orange peel fungus is actually, well, a fungus. The part that we usually see is the vibrant orange fruiting body of the widespread ascomycete formally known as Aleuria aurantia. It is considered edible, but rather unappetizing and is best left alone so that others may enjoy its beauty and charm.
