Rosy Russula (Russula sanguinea)

Rosy russula (Russula sanguinea) is a very attractive mushroom known for its scarlet red cap, rosy stipe (stalk), and association with pines. The specific epithet, sanguinea, means blood and is a reference to the color of its conspicuous fruiting body. Snow plant is a bright-red non-photosynthesizing plant which shares the same specific epithet.
